Wayne Hennessey, Crystal Palace’s goalkeeper, made a hash of clearing what a hopeful ball forward was, his miscalculation saw Sunderland’s Jermain Defoe slot in a goal. The blunder saw Sunderland emerge, leaders, ten minutes before the final whistle was blown.

Jermain Defoe's goal cemented Sunderland's chances of avoiding relegation. Sunderland’s Defoe snatched a 1-0 win against Crystal Palace on Monday.

Crystal palace’s goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey and centre-back Scott Dan blundered by making a hash clearing ball forward. Their error made it possible for Sam Allardyce’s make the second win in the on-going premier league season.

Sunderland FC nicknamed the Black Cats have moved into 18th position above Bournemouth trailing Newcastle United in position and by a single point. Newcastle are sitting neatly on top of the bottom three teams.

The Much Needed Win

The former England international Defoe made a much-needed goal to secure The Black Cat’s win. Sunderland had previously suffered two defeats with a humiliating 6-2 from Everton after having won their first match win in the premier league.

The first match win was against Newcastle United, and it was also manager’s Allardyce’s first win with the team after taking over the reins from Dick Advocaat. Unfortunately, Defoe the Tottenham ex-star limped off the pitch after suffering a leg injury as they played Crystal Palace in an away match.

The first half of the match against Crystal Palace was invigorating; Defoe was on top of his form and got close to scoring. He narrowly missed the net as he made a mighty kick from 12 yards away. Loyal Sunderland fans now have a better ground as they place free bets favouring their favourite club.

The Strong Comeback

Sunderland’s second half comeback was more vigorous. However, their chance of netting a goal in the first few minutes of the second half were halted by Palace’s midfielder Yohan Cabaye; the midfielder cleared Coates’s header off the line.

Crystal Palace also tried to net a goal; unfortunately, Sako’s curling effort flashed wide. Black Cat’s Jeremain Len wasted a clear opening after he shot straight at Palace’s goalie Hennessey. But their efforts did not entirely go to waste as The Black Cats took a lead during the 80th minute.

Sunderland’s player Dann entirely dealt Billy Jones’s good ball and was able to push it past Hennessey who was outside his area by ten yards. That gap made it possible for Defoe to drive the ball into the net securing Sunderland’s winning goal.

Former Newcastle’s Cabaye could have rescued Crystal Palace by scoring them a point just before the final whistle was blown; unfortunately, the midfielder did not manage to keep his free-kick on target.
