Sunderland dismiss Steve Bruce

Sunderland's chairman and owner Ellis Short last night relieved Steve Bruce of his duties as the Black Cat's manager. With the club currently sitting 16th in the Premier League table, and just 2 points above the much feared relegation zone Short's actions are far from surprising having described this as, "simply not good enough".

The ex Manchester United centre back has had a reasonably good career as a manager with notable spells in charge of Wigan, and Birmingham City where he was in charge for 270 games. The apparent ease with which he has moved between clubs means fans of his ex clubs may not hold his name in particularly high regard these days. However, whilst in charge of the Blues and the Latics, Bruce did a solid job of getting results despite failing to bring much flair to his team's play.
