As winter wraps its cold winds around us and the league tables begin to cement themselves after the flux of the opening exchanges, chairmen faced with fears of revenue losses begin to get jittery and aided by a panic-obssessed media, let their fingers hover over the eject button. It doesn’t seem to register that despite a slight improvement in performances after appointing a New Man, the roots of a club’s downfall often run much deeper than a hasty cosmetic makeover.
